Water service lines greater than two hundred (200) feet in length must use a pit meter installation (see below).

All water meters must be obtained through the City of Galion Meter Department. A meter service charge must be paid and a contract for service signed before service is turned on.

When services up to and including 1" in size are required, the City will supply the installer with meter couplers and a spacer bar for use prior to meter installation. Installation of 2" and larger service requires compound meters with a strainer on the inlet side.

All meters must be installed horizontally, and not more than 18" from the point where the service line enters the structure. All meters must be installed in such a manner and place that will allow ready access for meter readers. Meters must not be installed in crawl spaces.

Each meter must have a non-plastic shut-off valve installed on the inlet side. Meters larger than 5/8" must also have a shut-off valve installed on the outlet side.

When splitting water services, there must be a main shut-off valve and an individual shut-off valve for each meter. Each meter constitutes a separate water service. No cross-connects between services are permissible.

Pit Meter Installation Requirements
All meters, meter setters, pit boxes and pit covers must be obtained through, or approved by the City of Galion Meter Department. A meter service charge must be paid and a contract signed before service is turned on.

All pit meters must be installed using a meter setter. If multiple meters are used in one pit, each meter setter must be equipped with a shut-off valve. The pit must be installed not more than four (4) feet from the City's curb valve. Copper tubing must be used to connect the curb valve to the meter setter.

Any exceptions to the above require the written approval of an authorized employee of the City of Galion Meter Department.
