Variance Process

City of Galion ordinance 86-5557 as modified by ordinance 94-6097 establishes a Board of Zoning Appeals.  The Board is empowered to grant zoning variances, and to hear appeals of zoning rulings.

To request a variance or to initiate an appeal, contact the City Building/Zoning Office at 301 Harding Way East, (419) 468-2642.  There is a $150.00 fee.  All work on the project for which you are requesting a variance must cease pending a final determination by the Board of Zoning Appeals, unless the City Manager or the Board determines that to cease work would cause imminent peril to life or property.

Board of Zoning Appeals meets the 1st Thursday of each month at 5:30PM, if appeals are pending.  Meetings are open to the public.
